Jennifer L. Armentrout Summer Blog Tour: Why I’m A Fan!

Welcome to my stop on the JLA summer blog tour. I think the best way to start this post is with a quote from the review I wrote of Cursed:

“Opening up a Jennifer L. Armentrout novel is a little like taking a stroll through your favourite park, after a dinner of your favourite food, holding the hand of the hottest guy you know, whilst daydreaming of adventure and kicking butt.”

Yep, I think that pretty much sums up my thoughts of her books.

And I could leave the post there.

But I won’t.

Instead I’m going to attempt to explain why I love reading Ms A’s books.

1)      The uniqueness. No, I’m not saying there is absolutely nothing out there like JLA’s books, because that’s very rarely true of any titles. As a writer myself, I’m fully aware that very few ideas are unique—it’s just up to the writer to make them unique to themselves. What I’m talking about here is how her series’ are unique to each other. Sometimes you read different series’ by an author and they sound a lot the same just with different names. That’s so not the case here.

Lux is ssssssssssserioussssssly hot (<<notice the sizzles?) and oh so scrummiliciously witty and quite possibly the only books containing aliens I’ve ever felt a yen to read.

Covenant is an emotional roller coaster with twists and turns, and gods, and mythology, and kicka$$edness.

And Cursed is a whole other kind of read, taking the reader on an adventure that slowly builds in momentum, with a romance that isn’t exactly handed to the MC on a platter.

2)      The plots. I never see what’s coming. But then, I rarely try to. Most times when I figure something out fairly early in a book, it will just randomly pop into my head during a totally unrelated scene in a rather bizarre ‘well, holy c**p’ moment. And that’s just how I like it. :)

3)      Let’s not forget the characters. Coz these—nine times out of ten—are what keep me reading. Make me love your characters, make me give a damn about your characters, make me want to go to the ends of the earth to protect your characters … and you’ve usually won me over.

From Katie (snark-much! at its finest), to Daemon (the HAWT! alien with those damn eyes of his and his A-Mazing-sounding bod, and his so giggle-worthy sarcastic sense of humour that had me snorting my head off through Obsidian and Onyx), to Alex (KICK! ASS!), to Aiden (who I kinda ‘liked’ through Half Blood and Pure, but fell in LOVE with in Deity because the guy goes from just ‘Aiden’ to Holy! Hawtness!), to Seth (man, no matter that the guy has issues—and, DUDE!, that is so freakingly putting it mildly—I LOVE Seth’s character; even though I know he’s BAD, I still wanna cuddle him because I believe he’s emotionally twisted and somewhat misunderstood—though that may be the mother in me talking), to Ember (who the reader has no choice but to emphasise with, which means we totally feel her pain in the worst—or best—possibly way), to Hayden (who won me over, despite my suspicions he was gonna let me down).

Not to mention TONNES of full-bodied supporting characters that would more than double this post if I were to mention them all.

4)      Oh! And let’s not forget: JLA’s writing ain’t too shabby either. ;)

So, who else out there is a fan of this rocketing author? And if you’re not, have I convinced you yet to give her a try?

Here are some buy links so you can check out her books (Pssst, click on the pic):

And all these are without mentioning the adult titles she’s branched out with under her pseudonym J. Lynn. Those are deffo worth checking out, too. :)

And here’s the lady herself (she always chats back, so be sure to drop by and say hi):

  1. I loved your opening! I still need to read a few of her books. Jennifer’s writing is smooth. I’m the same way, I like plots that you don’t see coming.

I love it when people talk to me. :o)
