Cover Reveal: The 400 lb Gorilla by DC Farmer

Title: The 400 lb Gorilla

Author: DC Farmer

Publisher: Spence City

400gorillafullcover

And here’s the blurb:

Matt Danmor thinks he’s lucky. Not many people survive a near death accident with nothing more than a bout of amnesia, a touch of clumsiness and the conviction that the technician who did the MRI had grey skin and hooves.
Still, it takes time to recover from trauma like that, especially when the girl who was in the accident with you disappears into thin air. Especially when the shrinks keep telling you she’s just a figment of your imagination.
So when the girl turns up months later looking ravishing, and wanting to carry on where they left off, Matt’s troubled life starts looking up. But he hasn’t bargained for the baggage that comes with Silvy, like the fact she isn’t really an English language student, or even a girl.

Underneath her traffic stopping exterior is something else altogether, something involving raving fanatics bent on human sacrifice, dimensionally challenged baked bean tins, a vulture with a penchant for profanity, and a security agent for the Dept of Fimmigration (that’s Fae immigration for those of you not in the know) called Kylah with the most amazing gold-flecked eyes…

The 400 Lb Gorilla is caustic, (vampire-free) introduction to the Hipposync Archives: Contemporary fantasy at its sparkling best.

I kinda like the cover for this one. It’s interesting and the tones are good. The blurb sounds as though the story could be pretty witty, too.

What do you think?

And here’s the blurb:

Gretchen and her twin brother, Hank, were abandoned to a zombie horde when they were five years old. Intended to be a sacrifice by their zealot parents, they were instead rescued by The Company. Raised to become soldiers in the war against zombies, they now provide safe passage through danger zones, one contract at a time.

Clint’s only skill is war, but he’s weary of killing other men. When his contract with the Marines runs out, he takes a job on Gretchen’s team, hoping that the search-and-rescue life will suit him better.

On Clint’s second day, their four-man team is attacked, drugged, and taken to a prison full of frightened civilians. The only way in or out is by helicopter and, here, their enemies are human. One by one, the captives are culled from the holding area. Rumors say the facility director uses the prisoners as experimental subjects for the testing of a zombie cure.

When Hank is taken, Clint and Gretchen must put aside their personal feelings and find a way out of the prison, surrounded by thousands of starving zombies, before Hank becomes just one more disposable guinea pig in the hands of a twisted mad woman.

Release Day Cover Reveal: Fallen by Susan Kaye Quinn

As a HUGE fan of SKQ’s Debt Collector series, getting to be a part of this cover reveal makes me immensely happy.

Although … the title of this latest installment, and the picture on the cover … those make me a little nervous as to what’s in store for my lovely Lirium.

Let’s take a look:

~~~~~
Title: Fallen
Series: Debt Collector #6
Author: Susan Kaye Quinn
Release Date: May 15th 2013
Fallen_CVR_LRG
And here’s the blurb:
What’s your life worth on the open market?
A debt collector can tell you precisely.
Lirium plays the part of the grim reaper well, with his dark trenchcoat, jackboots, and the black marks on his soul that every debt collector carries. He’s just in it for his cut, the ten percent of the life energy he collects before he transfers it on to the high potentials, the people who will make the world a better place with their brains, their work, and their lives. That hit of life energy, a bottle of vodka, and a visit from one of Madam Anastazja’s sex workers keep him alive, stable, and mostly sane… until he collects again. But when his recovery ritual is disrupted by a sex worker who isn’t what she seems, he has to choose between doing an illegal hit for a girl whose story has more holes than his soul or facing the bottle alone–a dark pit he’s not sure he’ll be able to climb out of again.
The first three episodes of the Debt Collector serial are collectively the length of a short novel, or 152 pages. These are the first three of nine episodes in the first season of The Debt Collector serial. This dark and gritty future-noir is about a world where your life-worth is tabulated on the open market and going into debt risks a lot more than your credit rating. Episode 4, Broken, releases 4/17/13. For more about the Debt Collector serial, see DebtCollectorSeries.com
~~~~~

So, whatcha think? Like I said, I’m a little nervous, and worried about my poor Lirium (who I want to cuddle up and kiss better).

Susan Kaye Quinn grew up in California, where she wrote snippets of stories and passed them to her friends during class. Her teachers pretended not to notice and only confiscated her stories a couple times.

Susan left writing behind to pursue a bunch of engineering degrees, but she was drawn back to writing by an irresistible urge to share her stories with her niece, her kids, and all the wonderful friends she’s met along the way.

She doesn’t have to sneak her notes anymore, which is too bad.

Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as a much as she can handle.

Cover Reveal: Act Like You Love Me by Cindi Madsen + Excerpt!

Title: Act Like You Love Me

Author: Cindi Madsen

Publisher: Entangled (Bliss)

Release Date: June 10th 2013

Act Like You Love Me cover

And the blurb:

Brynn McAdams isn’t the awkward drama geek she was in high school—she’s grown up and confident, or at least she likes to think so. But when her old crush, the impossibly handsome and impossibly unattainable Sawyer Raines, comes back to town to direct her community play, Brynn finds herself determined to be someone other than the girl he doesn’t even recognize. Good thing she’s an excellent actress.

After his bad breakup in NYC, the last thing Sawyer wants is to get involved with another actress. But the glamorous and beautiful Brynn draws him in, even though as her director, he knows she’s off-limits. There’s just something about the woman that feels…familiar. Like home.

As Brynn’s lies start to snowball, she struggles to stop acting and come clean. But what if Sawyer is already falling for the fake Brynn, not the Brynn she truly is?

~~~~~
And now for that promised Excerpt:
“Cut, cut cut!” Sawyer stood. “Was that supposed to be more passionate? Because it sucked.”
“This is supposed to be the eighteen hundreds,” Brynn said. “It can’t be too passionate or it would seem inappropriate for the time.”
The next instant Sawyer was charging up the steps to the stage. “I’m not sayingit’s got to be a kiss with tongue, I’m saying you’ve got to look at each other like you’re in love so the audience will want it to work out. Our modern audience.” Sawyer shook hishead. “Take it again, from before the proposal.”
It was impossible to concentrate with Sawyer standing right there, so close she could hear every shift of his body and feel his gaze on her like a weight. All her lines were swimming together.
Leo knelt, told her she was an angel. She said her line, trying to peer into his soul like she wanted to be with him, and then Leo kissed her. And it was sloppier than usual.
She did her best to not jerk back, though it was her first instinct.
“Okay, that was just…” Sawyer moved in front of her. He looked at the playbook,then lowered it by his side and stared into her eyes. The air thickened around them andshe could feel every thump of her heart. “What a perfect angel you are, Cecily.” He saidit so tenderly, his smile close-lipped but full of joy.
“You dear romantic boy,” she said, all out of instinct because thoughts were getting fuzzy.
He leaned in and kissed her, a soft kiss with his lips barely parted. The pressure of his lips increased for a delicious moment, and then they were gone. A quick, simple kiss,but when his mouth left hers, she felt its absence so strongly that she couldn’t think about anything else for a couple seconds. Her breath was stuck somewhere in her lungs and her lips still tingled, living the sensation over and over again. Heat wound through her body, her hands itched to reach out and touch him. And then she remembered shewas supposed to. She ran her fingers through his hair and felt the whisper of his breath on her wrist as he exhaled.
“Wow, that was good,” Wendy said from the front, breaking Brynn from her trance.
Brynn stepped back and swallowed, but her throat wasn’t working right. Sawyer’s eyes never left hers, and one corner of his mouth curved up in a smug, self-satisfied way.
“It was all right, I suppose,” Brynn said, working to keep her voice steady. She crossed her arms and shrugged. “For a first-timer, anyway.”
That only made Sawyer’s smile grow wider.
Brynn couldn’t help but watch Sawyer as he jumped off the stage. Funny how she’d dreamed of kissing him all the time in high school, but her fantasy wasn’t even close to the real thing. Her heart felt like it’d just been wrung out and shoved back in her
And her scene with Leo was better. She was sure it had nothing to do with the fact that she closed her eyes and pretended it was Sawyer kissing her again.
Nope. Nothing at all.
OBSESSION-final cover
Um … is it just me, or does this cover make Arum’s look HOT!?
Dang!
And here’s the blurb:
He’s arrogant, domineering, and… To. Die. For.
Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.
Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something…unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.
Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life…or is it Hunter?
Cover Reveal: Crossroads by Jonathan Lister
Title: Crossroads
Series: A Demos City Novel #1
Author: Jonathan Lister
Publication date: November 4th 2013
Genre: urban fantasy/thriller
Crossroads_Cover_blog
And here’s the blurb:
Werewolf. Bar bouncer. Dad. Standard traits for any self-respecting, reformed criminal, living under the radar in Demos City. For Leon Gray, normal is what he wants—for himself and his not-yet-changed teenage daughter.
Playing bodyguard to crusading reporter David Hastings would totally ruin Leon’s peace, especially since Hastings has hired killers on his trail, pros who know how he takes his espresso in the morning, and where Leon lives.
The payoff, though, would fill up Shauna’s empty college fund, and in a battle between opportunity and ordinary, money wins. He just has to keep Hastings alive long enough to cash the check.
If only he didn’t have to save his daughter, too.
As a budding wolf, she’s piqued the interest of a local pack Alpha—one Leon knows will steal Shauna right out from under him the first chance he gets.
Leon isn’t about to give up on his daughter or Hastings, and will fight for both longer than it took Demos City to see werewolves as equals to humans.
He can only hope it doesn’t take a thousand years.
I’m liking this one. Though the eyes on the cover give me the creeps a little, I’m kinda looking forward to a werewolf tale that doesn’t revolve around romance. Defo intend to check this one out.
How about you? Sound like something you’d like?
And the blurb:
Human connection? Who needs it?
Ever since she can remember, wealthy but weary Saige Armstrong has felt different from her peers in Pechimu, New Jersey. With only one good friend to her name, she has navigated the complicated halls of high school and is now faced with the timeless question: Now what?
Fox Harrington, a fun-loving, socially charismatic graffiti artist uses his passions to color his world exactly how he wants it. He knows exactly where his life is headed. That is, until he meets Saige.
A summer project links the two together, making a tentative friendship bloom into romance, but despite their affection for each other, fundamental beliefs and ways of thinking threaten to destroy all they have built.
In this tender story of young love, N.K. Smith delivers a striking tale of two people standing on the precipice of adult life.
~~~~~~
Dunno about you guys, but I’m kinda digging this one. The reason I chose the full jacket cover to share, rather than just the front cover, is because I like how the image bleeds over onto the back. I can see this one being real pretty in print. And the blurb sounds decent, too.
But that’s not all. Because I also have a great little excerpt to share with you guys, too.
~~~~~~
“We’re not going to get caught. I’m a ninja.”
She’s not impressed by this. “But I’m not.”
“You could be,” I say as I take the spray cans from her and start to walk toward the bridge. It’s dark but not pitch black. The moon is high and shines down on us, giving her a striking glow that’s hard to ignore. To be honest, this bridge is a little more traveled than some
of the bridges I tag and the top has fencing to keep graffitists like me from defacing it, but I’ve scouted it out and know there’s a hole in the fence about three-quarters of the way down, so that’s where I’ll start.
When we get there, she bounces from foot to foot and turns her head left and right constantly as I paint. I feel better about tagging this one while I have a lookout.
“Stop freaking out. Just don’t think about being caught. Let’s just leave something lasting on this bridge, make our mark, and we’ll get out of here.”
“I can’t believe you think this is fun.”
“It is fun,” I say as I lift one foot off the bridge in order to reach a spot toward the bottom of my design. It’s different tonight. The fox is the same, but I’ve added little something else to mark it as the joint effort of Saige and me.
“Shit, there’s a car!”
I chuckle as I hear the near panic in her voice, but when I hear the car pass, I reach my hand back. “Green, please.”
She takes one can out of my hand and replaces it with the requested color. “Hurry up. I’m totally going to punch you in the gut if I get into trouble for this.”
In less than a minute, I’m finished and facing her. “There’s nothing wrong with a little trouble, Saigaweena. Lets you know you’re alive.”
“Saigaweena?”
“It made you smile, so yeah, Saigaweena.”
I look both ways and cross the street. I want to take her hand and pull her along with me, but I leave her to make her own decision. She follows, which excites me not only because she’s carrying half my paint, but because every time I’m near her, I get a little thrill. It’s like riding a roller coaster for the first time and the cart has just reached the summit of the first hill, and you look down and think what did I get myself into?
There’s no hole in the fencing on this side, so I take out my cutting pliers and use as much force as I can to snap the metal.
“Holy shit, Fox. Tagging’s one thing, now you’re destroying the—”
I stop what I’m doing and put my hands on her shoulders. “Ninjas don’t talk so much.
It’s quiet time. Let me work, and you can nag me about it later, okay?”
She narrows her eyes. “I’m not nagging. I’m protesting.”
“Protest silently.”
“This is destruction of property!”
“What you call destruction of property, I call beautifying the urban American landscape.”
“It’s graffiti,” she says, her voice nothing more than a hiss.
“I prefer urban art, thank you very much.”
Cover Reveal: Blood for the Sun by Errick A. Nunnally
Title: Blood for the Sun
Author: Errick A. Nunnally
Release Date: March 2014
Publisher: Spence City
BloodforthesuncoverAnd here’s the blurb:
After more than one-hundred and forty years, Alexander Smith is suffering from memory loss that plagues him like a supernatural Alzheimer’s. He has lasted longer than most by clinging to the love he has for his adopted daughter, the vampire Ana, and puzzling out cases of missing or murdered children. Without them, he wouldn’t be able to ignore the ghost of a child from his guilty past or fight the whispers goading him to kill. On his latest job, he’s stumbled upon a vampire conspiracy that has left a trail of child murders up and down the East Coast—a conspiracy that promises inoculation against the sun. If true, the conspirators’ success would mean a bloody conflict, altering the balance between humans and the supernatural forever. Losing more of his mind every day, Alexander has two impossible tasks ahead of him if the world is to survive: stop the vampire coven and reconnect with his humanity.
~~~~~~~

From the cover alone, I wouldn’t have pegged this as a vampire novel, because my initial reaction on seeing it was: um … creepy?

But the more I looked at the cover, and related it to the title, the more it clicked, and finally I read the blurb.

Yup, vampire novel.

However, it doesn’t sound like your run-of-the-mill vampire novel. And hopefully, this will be one where the MC doesn’t end up getting bitten and turned or crave getting bitten … yep, intriguing for sure simply because it sounds ‘different’.

How about you? Think it’s something you’d like?

And here’s the blurb:

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn’t anything new. They’d been best
friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie.
Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts
the ‘man’ in man-whore. He’s never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn’t want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she’s perfect and she’s everything. But the feelings he has for her, he’s always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they’re stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor’easter, there’s nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

Cover Reveal: Death and Mr Right by Kendra L. Saunders

Title: Death and Mr Right

Author: Kendra L. Saunders

Publication date: October 2013

Publisher: Spence City

DMR cover FINAL

And here’s the blurb:

It is March 32nd, the day that doesn’t exist, and Death, the agent of nightmares, has been demoted and exiled to live among mortals for the rest of his unnaturally long life. Everyone knows They don’t look lightly on important items getting lost or an agent falling in love.

Can the diva-like Death navigate the modern world, recover what was stolen from him (the names of the damned… ooops!) and get his job back? Or will he fall in love with Lola, the pretty thief who got him into trouble in the first place?

This is possibly one of the weirdest covers I’ve revealed on Bookaroo-Ju, but weird in a whacky and fun-looking kind of way. I’m presuming Mr Q-mark is Death, and the guy in his arms is Mr Right, but in all honesty, I have no idea, LOL. Though, I’m not too attracted to the dude with his blue hair, so if he’s the guy pursuing the female, he’ll have to be seriously awesome in general to win me over, because I can often be quite swayed by the visuals of a cover. Either way, I’m intrigued enough to want to check this one out.

How about you? Sound like something you’d like?
